Robert Paterson Rithet held financial interests in Canadian Pacific Navigation Company, a steamship company that operated steamships on the coast of British Columbia and the Inside Passage of southeast Alaska. Of the many steamships operated by CPNC, one sternwheeler was named in honour of Robert Paterson Rithet. The R.P. Rithet steamship sailed its maiden voyage on June 10th, 1882. It would continue to operate under the R.P. Rithet name until 1909 when new owner, the Terminal Steam Navigation Company refitted the ship and renamed the vessel the Baramba.
